Sealer Product
Fence Tech uses an oil based semi-transparent sealer and stain in one. It is a unique blend of resin, pigment, oil, and algicide that penetrates deeply into wood to protect and preserve it from the elements. "Ready SealŪ" can be used on all types of wood. The Sealer contains trans-oxide pigment that acts as the UV protection. The trans-oxide pigment help protect your wood from fading and graying. Darker colors provide more UV protection. To properly maintain wood, a light cleaning and re-coat is recommended every two years on horizontal surfaces and every 3 to 4 years on vertical surfaces. Variances in the product longevity may be caused by original surface condition, application of product, and geographic location. "Ready SealŪ" is intended for exterior wood surfaces only.

Frequently Asked Questions

Our Sealer product comes in your choice of several colors: Gold, Light Brown, Medium Brown, Medium Red, Dark Brown, Dark Red, and Natural Cedar.

What types of wood can the Sealer be used on?

Sealer can be used on all types of wood. There is another formula called "Redwood Only" made for use on redwood. It is also recommended for mahogany and furniture.

What is the coverage rate?

Coverage rates will vary depending on the type of wood being sealed and the age. New Pressure Treated: 150-200 sq/ft/gallon New Cedar : 125-150 sq/ft/gallon Older Wood: 100-125 sq/ft/gallon Rails: add 20% to rail coverage if spraying.

Does the Sealer contain UV protection?

The pigment is the UV protection. All Sealer colors contain transoxide pigments except the Gold. Transoxide pigments contain small pieces of metal that refract the sun. The Gold contains a clay pigment which does give some UV protection but not as much as the other colors. The darker the color the more UV protection you will have.

What is solid content?

Solids are defined as what percentage of the product does not evaporate into the air upon application. Based on this: the solid content in the Sealer is between 85% and 90%. The three most important things to look at in a Semi-Transparent sealer are the resins, mildewcide and the pigment.

What are the temperature limits on Sealer?

Sealer can be used in hot or cold conditions. Bright sun is not a problem. It will penetrate a little slower in colder conditions as the wood grain begins to shrink. It also is harder to get wood to dry in cooler times.

Can Sealer be applied with a sprayer?

Sealer will flow easily through any type of sprayer from a pump-up to a Shurflo. It does not need to be strained before application.

Does Sealer need to be back brushed?

No back brushing is needed because it penetrates quickly without any laps, runs or streaks.

How long a drying time does it need before it rains?

It can be rained on 2 hours after it is applied.

How long does it take for oil to soak in after sealing?

There will be a oily residue on wood for 48-72 hours after sealing. It can still be walked on but there may be some tracking so make the customer aware of this.

How do I get over spray off?

Try to get it off before it dries with a rag and mineral spirits. Simple Green works well also but do not get it on the deck after sealing. Always test an area to see what affect it has on the substrate being cleaned.

How often should Sealer be applied?

It should be done at least every two to three years.

What does maintenance consist of?

A light cleaning and then giving the wood a chance to dry. In most cases it only takes a couple of hours for the wood to dry. Even though the color is faded, the resins and oil are still in the wood so it will dry quickly. The re-coat will take about a third less material to do as the initial cost.

Why does product stop beading water?

After the product has completely soaked in, the beading will stop. This does not mean that it has stopped performing. Sealer is made to spread water out so it will dry up as quickly as possible. It is still keeping water out even though it is not beading water.

Deck is too dark when done?

It takes 10 days to 2 weeks for Sealer to reach its true color after it is applied.

Is there any wood that Sealer cannot be used on?

Sealer can be used on just about any type of wood. There is another formula that is made for Redwood. This is our Redwood Only that is made especially for Redwood. Care must be taken when using this formula because it will lap and streak. If you use this formula please call for instructions. * This formula is also recommended for Mahogany and furniture. We have touched on many questions that come up with Sealer but we know that there are more and we are happy to answer any you may have.
